Improving Digestion

First of all – what is digestion? Digestion: is the process of breaking down food by mechanical and enzymatic action into substances that can be used by the body. This process begins in the mouth and moves though the esophagus, stomach, and intestines where food is broken down by digestive enzymes, absorbed through the small intestine, sent into your bloodstream and delivered throughout your body.

SO digestion matters because it is the entire process of how nutrients are delivered to every system in our body. It’s how we turn food into the carbohydrates, protein, fats, and vitamins we need to have energy, growth, and cell repair. Digestion is getting food from point A (the mouth) to point F (our cells) as it moves though the esophagus, stomach, large intestine, and small intestine down through the anus. Without this process we would not survive.

When our bodies are operating in their healthiest state this process is smooth and efficient but oppositely … when our bodies have underlying health conditions this process is often slow and challenging causing a multitude of other health issues.

Having a smooth-running digestive system is crucial to our well-being. Signs that this process is not running as smoothly as it should be includes bloating, diarrhea, heartburn, irritability, constipation, gas , fatigue, and more. These are all signs of inflammation and overall disruption of the body’s natural processes.

So how do we reach our peak of health? How do we heal our digestive system and create a smooth operating system? How do we rid ourselves of inflammation and restore not only the gut but the brain and every other bodily system?

We get down to the root of it. We get down to where every system begins. We get down to the nutrients we are feeding our cells. And we begin and maintain by feeding these systems the foods we were meant to be eating. The foods God created that our bodies so desperately crave, to soak in their nutrients and heal ourselves from the inside out.

THAT’S how we improve our digestion.

THAT’S how we use food as medicine to heal our digestive system. We give it the proper environment and nutrients that it was meant to thrive off of.
